Celebrities, comics and cars all will be showcased at the Motor City Comic Con this coming weekend at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi.
The annual show offers a million comics and collectibles on display for sale and trade.
Jeffrey Serling of Romulus, with the help of nearly 100 volunteers, organizes the event, which is expected to draw more than 10,000 people over three days.
Serling has been working and promoting the convention for 18 years.
Highlights include two costume contests: the traditional costume contest hosted by Scott Crawford and Alienated Productions at 3 p.m. Saturday and the "Star Wars"-themed contest hosted by the 501st Legion at 1:30 p.m. next Sunday.
New this year will be daily screenings of science fiction- or comic book-related films.
A variety of comic creators and illustrators such as Chris Claremont, David Finch and Bernie Wrightson will be there, plus a host of celebrities including Micky Dolenz from the Monkees, Erik Estrada from "CHiPs" and local TV favorite the Ghoul.
There also will be a display of cars from favorite television shows.
Motor City Comic Con runs 12:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. next Sunday. Advance ticket holders will be admitted 30 minutes early each day.
Adult three-day passes cost $50 and $25 for kids. Daily passes cost $20 for adults and $10 for kids. There is a $5 parking fee each day.
